As a designer, educator, researcher and writer I aim to promote a critical, interactive and playful approach to design, from evolving new methods for concept generation to developing innovative products.
Originally trained as a car designer, I have worked and taught across a range of design disciplines to create new methods and formats to encourage meaningful consumer and audience participation in the production, consumption and interpretation of design. I aim to create a vibrant design culture that thrives on idea creation, innovation and exploration, enabling the creation of inclusive designs for people, with people.
Most recently I have created installations for The Scottish Show at The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Architecture, Design and the City and Musée de Design et d'Arts Appliqués Contemporains, Lausanne, curated Remodelling Home at Scotland's Housing Expo for Sust. and Architecture + Design Scotland, delivered 'Claystation' participatory workshops for 'Our Environment, Our Future' at the Scottish Parliament, and designed an innovative rotationally moulded seating range for Outgang. I have written and contributed to a number of books and publications. Laurence King will publish 'Product Design', co-authored with Paul Rodgers, in September 2011.
